How LocalBeam works
LocalBeam connects two browsers directly using WebRTC, a peer-to-peer protocol built into every modern browser. Your local WiFi network is used to discover nearby devices - once connected, files move straight from one device to the other. No server ever sees your files.
1. Connect both devices to the same WiFi network
LocalBeam uses your local network to find nearby devices - both the sender and receiver need to be on the same WiFi.
2. Open localbeam.app on both devices
No install required - LocalBeam runs in the browser on desktop and mobile.
3. Pick the other device from the list
Devices on the same network discover each other automatically and appear by name.
4. Choose files and send
Files transfer directly between the two devices over a WebRTC data channel - nothing passes through a server.
